How it works

The formula

Exactly what this calculator does with your numbers — no hidden assumptions.

01shield

Safety stock

Safety stock = Z × daily sales variation × √lead time. Z is 1.65 for a 95% chance of not running out during the lead time.

02schedule

Lead-time demand

Average daily sales × lead time in days — what you will sell while waiting for the new stock.

03notifications_active

Reorder point

Reorder point = lead-time demand + safety stock. When stock falls to this level, place your next order.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Q1How do I find my daily sales variation?
Export daily unit sales for the last 30–90 days and use your spreadsheet’s STDEV function. If you don’t have data yet, a rough guess is 20–30% of average daily sales.
Q2What lead time should I use for FBA?
Include everything: production, freight, customs, and Amazon check-in and receiving time — not just the shipping time. Longer lead times need more safety stock.
Q3Which service level should I choose?
95% is a common balance between stockouts and cash tied up in inventory. Bestsellers where a stockout hurts rankings often justify 97.5–99%.

Assumes steady demand and a fixed lead time. Plan extra stock for seasonality, promotions and supplier delays.
