PayPal Fees for Business (2026) — and How Much to Charge

Updated October 8, 2026 · 4 min read

PayPal charges a percentage plus a fixed fee on each payment you receive for goods or services. The rate depends on how the customer pays you.

Standard US rates

Rates can vary by account and change over time, so confirm yours in your PayPal account.

Payment typeFee
PayPal Checkout (buttons on your site, invoices)3.49% + $0.49
Goods & services / standard card payments2.99% + $0.49
Buyer outside the US+1.5% international fee

Example

On a $100 PayPal Checkout payment you pay $3.49 + $0.49 = $3.98, and receive $96.02.

How much to charge to receive a set amount

To net an exact amount, divide it (plus the fixed fee) by one minus the percentage: charge = (target + $0.49) ÷ (1 − 0.0349).

To receive $100, charge $104.12. The PayPal Fee Calculator does this automatically with the “How much to charge” option.

Ways to reduce payment fees

  • Compare PayPal with Stripe or Shopify Payments for your typical order size.
  • Encourage larger orders — the fixed $0.49 matters less on bigger baskets.
  • Watch currency conversion costs on international sales.
