Etsy’s main fees (US shops)
| Fee | Amount | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing (and renewal, and each extra item sold) |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price + shipping + gift wrap |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | Order total including tax |
| Offsite Ads (if applicable) | 12–15%, max $100 | Orders that came from an Offsite Ad |
A worked example
You sell a mug for $25 and charge $5 shipping. Etsy charges $0.20 to list, $1.95 transaction fee (6.5% of $30) and $1.15 processing (3% of $30 + $0.25) — $3.30 in total, or 11% of the order.
If that same sale came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, add another $4.50 — fees jump to $7.80.
Offsite Ads: optional or not?
Shops that made under $10,000 in the past 12 months can opt out, and pay 15% when an ad sale happens if they stay in. Shops above $10,000 must take part at 12%. In both cases the fee is capped at $100 per order.
How to protect your margin
- Price with all fees included — use the Etsy Fee Calculator on your real numbers.
- Remember shipping is charged fees too; “cheap shipping + higher price” doesn’t avoid them.
- Build a buffer for Offsite Ads if you’re over $10,000 or opted in.
- Bundle low-priced items: fixed fees ($0.20 + $0.25) hurt most on small orders.
