The main eBay fees (US)
| Fee | Amount | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Final value fee (most categories) | 13.6% up to $7,500 | Total amount the buyer pays: item + shipping + sales tax |
| Final value fee above $7,500 | 2.35% | The part of the sale above $7,500 |
| Per-order fee | $0.30 (orders of $10 or less) · $0.40 (over $10) | Each order |
| Promoted Listings (optional) | Your chosen ad rate | Sales that come through the ad |
Why the fee is higher than 13.6%
Because the final value fee is charged on the total the buyer pays — including shipping and sales tax — the fee as a share of your item price is higher than the headline rate.
Example: an item sells for $45 with $5 shipping and $3.60 sales tax. The final value fee is 13.6% of $53.60 = $7.29, plus the $0.40 per-order fee — $7.69 in total, or about 15.4% of the $50 you charged for the item and shipping.
Category rates
Some categories use different rates — for example books, movies and music are higher, while guitars and high-value sneakers are lower. Store subscribers also get reduced rates in many categories. Choose your category in the eBay Fee Calculator or enter your own rate.
How to keep more of each sale
- Price with fees included — run your real numbers through the eBay Fee Calculator.
- Remember that charging more for shipping also increases the fee.
- Only promote listings where the extra sales justify the ad rate.
- Bundle low-priced items so the per-order fee is spread over a bigger order.
